The gap is what success creates

Growth creates complexity faster than any operating model can absorb it.The gap that opens is what success creates. Closing it is the work.

About Wawona Advisory

Stewardship over theatrics.

Wawona takes its name from the old word for the big trees. The Mariposa Grove beside it is our reference point for building what lasts. It is a place shaped by time, restraint, and stewardship.

We are brought in when growth slows, execution drags, or complexity starts winning. We reset priorities, install rhythm, and make ownership stick. The work is unornamented and useful: clear priorities, durable execution, and operating judgment that has been in the room before.

When to call us

When ambition has outrun the operating model

It happens to every company that grows, and it says nothing about the leadership or the effort. The business moved faster than its systems, and systems don't complain. They just quietly stop keeping up.

One more thing we've learned: the problem you can see is rarely the problem underneath. It's a pattern, and it's our most common finding.

There are three paths in. Start with the one that sounds like your Monday.

Path 01

You are running, and something is stuck

  • Growth has plateaued, or margin is quietly eroding.
  • The strategy is sound. The execution depends on who's in the room.
  • The team is working hard, just not always in the same direction.
  • Go-to-market focus has blurred, or incentives pull against each other.
  • An exit, a raise, or a scale moment is coming, and the business needs to be ready to be looked at.

Path 02

You are building, and the build has outrun the business

  • The product works. Growth showed up. The operating system and the team around it haven't caught up yet.
  • Customers and investors are asking for a plan nobody has had time to write.
  • You run a platform or an incubator, and your founders keep hitting the same wall: a product is not yet a company.
This is Venture Clarity →
Path 03

You are deploying capital, and the plan has to govern it

  • A deal is under review and the operating picture won't come into focus.
  • A portfolio company has stalled and needs an operator's read of why.
  • Capital is ready to move. The plan that governs it isn't written yet.
This is Capital Clarity →

Three paths. One method. Each begins with a short, fixed-fee Assessment. What that looks like is below.

State-gated. Fixed fee. Senior from the first meeting to the last. You'll always know what you bought and what comes next.

Operating Clarity

For companies that are running.

The business used to feel easier. Now growth is flat or margin is sliding, the team is working harder than ever, and more effort no longer buys more results. The causes rarely sit where the symptoms do, so we run a tight diagnostic across the functions that decide whether growth holds, put a priority matrix in front of your leadership team, and stay to build the two or three moves that matter. Your people do the work with us, which is why it holds after we leave.

Venture Clarity

For ventures that are forming.

The product works and growth showed up. What hasn't caught up is the company around it: the operating system, the team, the plan your investors keep asking for. We build that engine around what you've made: go-to-market design, org shape, financial baseline, and a use-of-funds story your next investor will accept. For platforms and incubators, the same program embeds in your cohort offer, and your product and IP stay yours throughout.

Capital Clarity

For capital that is deciding.

Capital is ready to move and the operating picture won't come into focus. We diligence like operators: we name the gap that would surface in year one before year one happens, turn the diligence into an operating plan the founder signs, and stay in while it takes hold. Funds, family offices, and allocators use it to decide whether to fund, how to fund, and what plan governs the money.

AI Clarity

For teams deciding where AI earns its place.

AI is already in your building, with or without a plan. Most firms sit somewhere between seat licenses bought on hope and a strategy deck nobody runs, while the real questions go unanswered: who approved the tools in use, what the spend returns, and what leaves the building through accounts nobody controls. The gap is rarely the technology. It is fluency, governance, and a culture that either absorbs AI or quietly resists it. We measure where your firm actually sits against best practice, then build the plan that closes the gap: priorities tied to the P&L, governance the organization can carry, and adoption that outlasts the pilot.

The disciplines inside every product

Readiness and value creation Operating model, culture, and team alignment Go-to-market discipline Brand, experience, and execution Complex operations and supply chain Technology-enabled transformation

The names describe the clarity you're buying. A founder can buy Capital Clarity when raising. A fund can buy Operating Clarity when a portfolio company is stuck. Start with the gap you're standing in. We'll meet you there.

How we work

Judgment at the junction.

Senior, focused engagements built to create clarity, momentum, and durable results when execution matters most.

Every path, the same four stages

Every engagement, in every product, starts the same way: a short, fixed-fee Assessment with a defined output, delivered in weeks. You see what we see before you spend another dollar. And if the Assessment says stop, we say stop. Out loud.

01

Assess

A bounded diagnostic. Objectives, constraints, unit economics, where the system is straining. And whether the problem you called about is the problem you have. Same rigor across all four products; only the lens changes.

02

Align

Lock priorities, decision rights, and cadence. Get the leadership team pulling in one direction on purpose. The output is a plan the team shaped and signed themselves.

03

Build

Systems, routines, and accountability, built with the people who will own them. Momentum without heroics.

04

Advise

A lighter, continuing rhythm once the work holds. We stay long enough for it to stick, then we leave.

Direct, senior partnership

  • Direct access to the operating partners. No leverage model, no handoffs.
  • Short, outcome-oriented engagements.
  • Embedded operating support when needed.

Bias toward execution

  • Clarity before activity.
  • Plans that hold under pressure.
  • The right call matters more than the fastest one.

Scott partners with leaders on the human side of execution: how teams align, decide, and follow through when the pressure is real. Direct without being punitive, he keeps engagements grounded in what a team can actually carry, so momentum is built on ownership rather than heroics.
